Matcha Matcha Matcha | Thanksgiving Edition

Join us for a focused exploration of matcha and the broader world of Japanese tea, with a seasonal Thanksgiving twist. This session goes beyond matcha as a trend and into a deeper understanding of how it is grown, processed, prepared, and experienced. Alongside matcha, we’ll taste a selection of Japanese teas to build context and understand matcha as part of a much larger tea tradition.

Through guided tasting and demonstration, you’ll begin to recognize differences in quality, texture, intensity, and finish while learning what goes into preparing matcha well.

What to Expect

Matcha in Context
Taste multiple Japanese teas alongside matcha to explore differences in processing, flavor, and style. Learn where matcha sits within the broader landscape of Japanese tea and what to look for when evaluating quality.

Understanding Matcha
Explore terms such as usucha, koicha, and “ceremonial,” and what they actually mean in practice. Learn how matcha is cultivated, shaded, processed, and stone-milled, and how those choices shape what ends up in the bowl.

Preparation & Technique
See the fundamentals of matcha preparation demonstrated, including water temperature, ratio, whisking, texture, and balance. Learn what creates sweetness, structure, and a satisfying finish.

From Traditional to Seasonal
Experience matcha in multiple forms, from traditional preparation to modern matcha lattes and tea-based creations. For this Thanksgiving edition, we’ll explore how matcha and Japanese tea can move into the holiday table through warm spices, roasted flavors, seasonal ingredients, and a few unexpected combinations designed for gathering and celebration.

This session is designed to deepen your understanding of matcha, give you greater confidence in recognizing quality and preparing it at home, and offer a little inspiration for bringing tea into the holiday season in a more thoughtful way.
